Aerocature (tm) of the XB-51 that appeared in Hank Caruso's 2002 Aerocatures (tm) Calendar.
Following World War II, every major air force was trying to adapt the jet engine to bomber aircraft. Equipped with three engines and advanced structural and aerodynamic features, the Martin XB-51 was one of the most promising and exciting prototypes. Its only operational service, however, was its starring role as the Gilbert XF-120 in the film "Toward the Unknown." In a controversial decision, the U.S. Air Force rejected the Panther (as it was rumored to have been unofficially named) in favor of the B-57.
